The key to learning Spanish at Vamos Spanish Academy lies in our modern communicative method, which guarantees an enjoyable atmosphere, and results in consistent progress.
Why Our Students Learn
Each student takes a placement test before their first Spanish class to accurately determine their level. We also take into consideration other languages you may speak. Hence multilingual or students with a native language similar to Spanish will be placed together as a group as they generally learn quicker than students who have never learnt a language before. This means you will be placed in a class with students of a similar level.
We believe that the perfect Spanish course book doesn't exist, as everyone and every group has its own needs, strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and we value this diversity. So, based on our extensive experience, we have designed our own dynamic materials to make sure our students master the four main language skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing - as well as having fun whilst learning.
Although reading and writing are included in the program, our main goal is to make you feel comfortable using Spanish in real situations of daily life. We focus on oral practice, speaking and listening. Classes are taught entirely in Spanish and within this immersion context you will learn to think and talk in the language.
By using different teaching techniques we use both the classroom and the streets of the city, integrating both locations allowing you to participate in real conversations naturally and effectively from your very first day, allowing you to learn Spanish fast, effectively and naturally.
In Vamos Spanish Academy we have six levels: Beginner 1 & 2, Intermediate 1 & 2, Advanced and Superior. We follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Each level is organized depending on the students’ competencies necessary for effective communication. The advantage of this framework is that it mainly considers what a learner “can do” with the language. Although in our classes different parts of the language system (grammar, vocabulary, etc.) are discussed, our levels mainly indicate the students’ performance to function in communicative contexts. Please refer to our Spanish Skill Level Chart for a more detailed description of Spanish skills by levels.
To “map” out a journey in learning Spanish, these are the approximate amount of group class hours one would take to reach each level according to our Vamos Spanish program:
| Levels | Approximate no. of hours/weeks of Spanish group classes | |||||
| Beginner 1 | 80 hrs/4 wks | |||||
| Beginner 2 | 80 hrs/4 wks | |||||
| Intermediate 1 | 60 hrs/3 wks | |||||
| Intermediate 2 | 60 hrs/3 wks | |||||
| Advanced | 100 hrs/5 wks | |||||
| Superior | 100 hrs/5 wks | |||||
| TOTAL time to complete the whole Spanish program = around 24 weeks or 6 months | ||||||
Since no two learners develop their language skills in the same manner or at the same pace, the number of hours needed for different students may vary. Some factors that may affect the time to reach each level are:
- age and motivation
- linguistic & cultural backgrounds
- extent of exposure to the language outside the classroom
- amount of time spent in individual study
Our teachers and academic staff will be more than happy to give you tips so that you can make the most of your time when studying!
