Transport in and around Buenos Aires is inherently difficult, but last week I think I found the answer. Bikes! Roll through the city at the perfect pace to take in and enjoy the sites and sounds of the buzzing city. Forget getting lost on the number 666 bus to nowhere as usually happens when you first try your luck on the bus. (If you do want to give it a shot, don’t forget to learn how to use the Guia T first!) No more rubbing up against that creepy fat man in the subte (subway), leave with the wind in your hair and without the shackles of timetables and stops.
There are a surprising amount of beautiful places to enjoy by bike, be it the majestic parks of Palermo or through the quieter residential district of Recoleta. I discovered a really exciting way to see the city is via a guided bike tour, it’s cheap, insightful, and you will discover parts of the city not possible in a bus or by foot. A local guide will take you on a meandering trail intertwining different districts and historical sites.
Urban Adventures is the aptly named company that can organise your Buenos Aires bike tours. They are based in Palermo and take small groups of tourists, on carefully planned routes though the finest parks of the city and also into the depths of the centre. I was excited to hear that they are even planning a guided bike tour of some of the stunning graffiti in the city, a unique tour that I am very eager to experience!
